The dry, spider-like grasses, in marsh lands near our home, poke out of the snow and are an oil pastel challenge for me. I put the grasses with oil pastel sticks sharpened in a hand pencil sharpener and cleaned with a paper towel. Once the hint of grasses were done I went over them with pastel pencils in order to create a thinner grass. The low bushes at the back straddle the horizon and make a strong statement next to the sky and snow ground. The grasses were placed to draw the eye to the foreground and create movement throughout the painting/drawing.
