One Day Oil Pastel Painting/Drawing. - well, really two afternoons!
Despite feeling fatigued recently, I pushed myself to enter the studio. I spent two afternoons creating thumbnail sketches, selecting one to add pencil values to, transferring the drawing to my illustration board, printing the values in oxide red, and then transferring the picture to pastel paper. I carefully developed a color scheme that suited my vision. Once I had roughed in the colors, I began the actual painting process.
As I painted, I sealed each layer with spray and added additional layers of oil pastel once the previous layer had dried. I started by focusing on the trees at the horizon and then moved on to the sky. I continued to work up and down the painting until I achieved a piece that not only pleased me but also captured the essence of the scene that inspired me.
The atmosphere in the painting reflects the rawness of the environment, and I incorporated my love of contrasts to enhance the overall composition.
