"Raven in the Tall Grass" (a Pyrographic Painting)

I have been working on a series of Raven images over the last year. I have finally put together a group of paintings that I will put up onto this site in order to see them in a different light.

After determining my vision -what I wanted to communicate about the subject - I sketched out the composition and then transferred the image to 12" x 19" plywood board before adding paint.

I had seen this raven in the tall grass and as I approached it opened up its wings as if to ward me off or protect what it might have had hidden beneath it. The image represented more than an "obvious" answer and that enigma is what I wanted to capture in this painting.
