Creating a Graphic Comic Regarding My Stroke
In August 2021, I had a stroke that required emergency procedures and recovery at my local hospital. After that, I had to go to a rehab facility far from home, all while dealing with the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Once I was at home and working through my personal rehab, I decided to create a graphic comic about my stroke and recovery journey. This comic helped me show the ups and downs of my experience, the therapies that helped me get better, and the amazing team of experts and family who supported me along the way.
The comic is filled with humour and personal insights that give a glimpse into the emotional and physical struggles I faced during my rehab. Creating the booklet of comic panels was a way for me to express myself and take charge of my recovery.
I'm planning to keep adding to the comic, focusing on virtual rehab at home, exercises, and the day-to-day challenges of life after a stroke. My hope is to share my project with others who might be going through something similar and maybe help them out a bit
